Day:11 of my journey Rome, Italy Incredible! By definition it means too extraordinary or improbable to believe. Synonyms include fantastic, implausible, inconceivable, unbelievable, and unconvincing. One might use this when some one else describes a day filled with sights so amazing that many would not believe at first. Perfect! This is the perfect word to describe my incredible day. The Roman Coliseum was incredible. It was not as white as the books showed because all of the marble was taken to build the Saint Peters Basilica, but it was still impressive. Unfortunately the tour guide had an incredibly thick accent. This made it hard for me to understand and focus, so I let my mind explore the wonders of the Coliseum and allowed my imagination to educate me. Before, it never crossed my mind how hard the Romans worked to build this colossal theater. As we looked down from the seats on top I hear the crowd roaring, I saw the animals clashing, and I witnessed the gladiators competing and the mock naval battles in action. I was in an absolute trance by the marvel of this monument. I snapped out of it when I felt a tug on my shirt. It was time to go and Johnnie was pulling me to go along.
The Vatican City was on of the main highlights of the trip. I didn't realize how lucky I was to go on this trip, but the moment I stepped into the central square. I was amazed by the large chapels, the many statues, and magnificent fountains. This was truly a place where history lives and breathes. We first saw the view from the Belvedere Chapel. Then the Sistine Chapel. It was amazing. The back wall showed the end of the world and the ceiling showed pictures representing the coming of Jesus Christ. I could see why Michelangelo was proclaimed a genius. Finally we saw the Saint Peter's Basilica. It was so large it could fit the Statue of Liberty underneath its dome! My favorite thing there was the statue of Virgin Mary holding Jesus in her arms. At the end of the day it was time to go back to the hotel for a much needed rest. What an incredible end to an incredible day.
